Cycle of teachings during the summer

« Our emotions, key to compassion and wisdom »

On Sundays : July 05th, July 19th, August 02nd, August 16th, August 23th, September 06th

All of us we have emotions like anger, desire, and jalousy, that is very normal. The problem with the emotions is, that they have a strong influence on us and bring us again and again in difficulties, without being really aware of it.

In its essence our mind is joyful, compassionate, and wise. And it has the potential to find itself solutions for its own problems. But for this it is necessary to look into oneself, in order to understand how it is working.

With the help of Buddha's teaching we can learn to use our emotions positively and to liberate ourselves from their painful influence, and in the same time to reveal the fundamental qualities of the mind : joy, compassion, and wisdom.

Chenrezig Retreat

From Saturday November 16th to Sunday November 17th, 2019

Compassion and Love for others are the bases of the Buddhist path towards Enlightenment. Chenrezig manifests the love and compassion which are also naturally present within our mind.

However, as long as our mind is clouded by our dualistic way of thinking and by our egocentric emotions, we find it difficult to feel and to express love and compassion for all sentient beings.

The practice of Chenrezig helps us to reveal these two qualities in ourselves, by developping these during meditation and by understanding that not only we but all sentient beings are exposed to the same suffering and possess the same enlightened essence, thus we free ourselves little-by-little from our egocentric duality.

Furthermore, this practice offers access to the wisdom of compassion beyond conceptual limitations.

At the beginning of the weekend, there will be a short introduction (or reminder) to the Buddhist path, why we choose it, what is the purpose of the Buddhist practice and how does it function.

By questionning these foundations, we give a framework to our personal practice. This can help us to maintain our practice even under difficult daily conditions and help us to apply the precepts of Buddha in everyday life.

Then the practice of Chenrezig will be explained, with time for Q&A, and the execution of the practice itself.

PRACTICAL INFORMATIONS

At lunchtime, it is possible to eat together - in silence. We ask that those wishing to participate bring a vegetarian dish for 2 or 3 persons to share (already prepared and only needing to be reheated in the over or in a pan if it is to be served hot).

So that we can organize and prepare the space, we ask that you please register in advance

We have meditation cushions you can sit on in lotus position on the tatami. If you wish to sit on a chair, please inform us.

The retreat is offered free-of-change. However, there will be the possibility to make an offering, if you so wish, to contribute to the activity of the Sangha.

The teaching will be in French and also, upon request, in German or in English.

The Four Basic Thoughts which turn the mind towards the Dharma

Saturday 18th and Sunday January 19th, 2020

The analysis of our current situation from a Buddhist point of view allows us to realize to what extent our life is truly precious.

If we become conscious that during this lifetime we have the possibility of understanding and applying Buddha's teachings, which offers us a path towards freedom from suffering, we then can realize the specific nature of our PRECIOUS HUMAN EXISTENCE.

Reflecting upon IMPERMANENCE reminds us that this life is going to end one day. Not only will this life itself end but the conditions are continuously changing to such an extent that we do not know how long these conditions will last, allowing us to practice the Dharma.

Everything is subject to the interaction between CAUSES and EFFECTS: just as a grain of wheat always gives rise to the growth of wheat, our acts will create their corresponding results. This is the logic of KARMA.

By respecting this logic, we take responsability for our present life and conciously lay the ground for our future.

Knowledge of the diversity of suffering in the different realms of existence allows us to realize the unsatisfactory nature of cyclical existence. Amongst other things, we can see that in this cycle of rebirths, there is no place or state of mind where we can definitively escape from suffering.

If we verify the truth of these four thoughts through our own experiences, we can truly use them as a source of motivation on our spiritual path.
